Cultural Landscape

Since Croatia is mostly a rural country there are not very many changes that they have made to the landscape. Croatia is along the coast so there are cities built alongside the ocean. Also since it is very rural the cities that they do have are very tightly packed. Since most of the population lives along the coast they are huge on boating. Croatia uses the Adriatic Sea as a huge resource for travel, food and enjoyment.  They built few roads throughout the country side but the view when driving is absolutely amazing. Croatia's buildings are mostly made out of brick and concrete which gives them a very old European style.

Urban and Economic Geography

Croatia is mostly a a rural country. It is covered in forests and mountains. 91.6% of the territory of the Republic of Croatia is classified as rural area, and 8.4% as urban area. 88.7% of settlements are situated in rural areas, and 11.3% in urban areas.  The citizens of Croatia almost split living in rural and urban areas equally with 47.6% of the population living in rural and 52.4% in urban areas. The average GDP for Croatia is $11,600.  Most of the GDP is generated in the capital, Zagreb. Most people make their money through tourism, manufacturing (light and shipbuilding) and farming which are the dominant industries. Many people are also business owners or self-employed.

Catholicism makes up most of Croatia's religious views. Approximately 90% of the population are Catholic but the Croatians are generally more easy going about religion and don't follow the religion to strictly.  They also have their own language which is Croation. The Croatian language is very similar to the the languages of other countries surrounding it such as Serbian. The two are pretty much the exact same language in fact  friend of mine from Croatian is giving Serbian lessons even though she never was taught the Serbian language.

Croatia is a parliamentary democracy and vote for their own leader just like the United States. They gained their independence from Yugoslavia in 1991 and wrote their own constitution in 1990. Even though they are a fresh democracy the country is running stably.

Croatia's Physical Geography

Croatia is a small country located in Europe. It borders the Adriatic Sea and the water is a very crisp light blue. It is a summer paradise with it's hot weather during the summer which makes it perfect to go to it's sandy beaches to relax. However, during the winter it does get pretty cold.  The landscape consists of mountains( the Dinarac Alps), hills, beaches and many islands. It is primarily covered in forests which extend to about 44% of Croatia's area.  It's beaches, mountains and forests make it a perfect place to go for people who like to do outdoor activities such as hiking, biking and swimming.
